Ghanaian actor, James Gardiner has expressed his opinion on why movie production in Ghana keeps declining.

The actor reiterated concerns by section of movie enthusiasts regarding same roles being given to some constant and known actors, with the believe that the already popular faces can meet their investment demands.

Gardiner, who is amongst the actors signed on to Zylofon Media told Delay, it is unfortunate the situation of always retaining same old faces in movies is gradually making movie lovers lose interest as they yern for varieties of actors taking up such roles as well.

“The movie industry is declining because the way it used to be vibrant four, five years ago isn’t the same now. The problem isn’t from the actors, I think is more of what the producers are going through now because they look for certain familiar faces when shooting a movie.”

The actor partly blamed movie producers for choosing certain familiar actors over others because they are more particular about recouping their financial investment they injected in the production.

Commenting on why producers cannot be entirely responsible for the low patronage of movies in Ghana, Gardiner disclosed that most film makers have complained about the abysmal sales of movies after giving roles to novices.

“The faces you’ve in a movie is your quoting price. When you feature Majid in your movie, he is a big brand and that means you’re going to get big money. But you can’t have Majid all the time, he will get more expensive by the year. The producers try to introduce new faces and that is how come Ghanaians complain.

“In the movie industry, it’s not easy to introduce new faces because the people who buy the right from the producers are used to the old faces because these are the faces that sell to them. If you bring new faces into the industry, the amount they quote for you is appalling. Many people are getting tired of the one-way faces in movie scene because there were no varieties and the producers were also not getting the money they invest in the movie with the new faces.

“Eventually, the problem of not getting their monies back after introducing new faces affect production as well. Instead of producing ten movies in a year, they are now doing less. There’s no money in acting, it’s the endorsements, appearance, mcing and other things that get we the actors going.”

James Gardiner’s advise to film makers is to balance the two situations to satisfy the need of the clients.
