The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has turned a request by the Let My Vote Count Alliance and Allied groups to picket at the premises of the Electoral Commission (EC) September 16, 2015, to demand for a new Voters register.

The Police, Kasapafmonline.com understands, cited security reasons to back their action.

According to the Regional Police Command, the premises of the EC is a security zone and therefore could not be accessed by the group.

But the Convener of the Let My Vote Count Account and its allied groups, David Asante told Kwaku Owusu Adjei in an interview on Si Me So on Kasapa 102.3 FM on Tuesday that the action of the Police was shocking having initially agreed to their request.

“We first had an agreement with the Police and they told us to put our request on paper. So, in the content of our letter, we said this is a follow up to our earlier discussion. They were the same people that we met but we are wondering why they have changed their position?” he fumed.

He urged the public not to be troubled by the action of the Police since their intended action would still come on.

The pressure groups on September 2, 2015, served notice about their intended action to picket at the premises of the EC and Parliament House on September 16, 2015, to demand for a new register.

Their action comes days after the Vice-Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) revealed that about 76,286 Togolese nationals had flooded the country’s voters register, hence, the need for a new one for the 2016 general elections.
