A teacher has been confirmed dead while over 40 other students of Mangoase Senior High School (SHS) have been injured in a fatal accident that occurred Saturday morning.

All the injured are receiving treatment at the Atua and St.Martins De Porres Hospitals.

However, one student who is in critical condition after sustaining fracture in the leg has been referred to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua.

The Students, according to EIB Network’s Eastern Regional Correspondent, Kojo Ansah Sasraku, were embarking on an educational trip to Somanya when they met the unfortunate incident.

Sources familiar with the situation say the bus driver was allegedly speeding while negotiating a curve on a rough road and in the process, causing the bus to veer off the road.

Attempt by the driver to apply the brake caused the bus to somersault at least four times.

The Deputy Director of Nursing Services at the Atua Government Hospital, Mrs. Naa Williams, some nurses and doctors have been called in to help attend to the situation at the emergency ward.

She said X-ray is being conducted on some of the students to investigate the extent of injuries sustained.

The Headmaster of Mangoase Senior High School, Seth Abgesi, commenting on the incident said he was devastated by the incident and will do everything possible to ensure that the injured students receive quality health care since education trip was sanctioned by the management of the school.
