Organized Lablour has described as unfortunate the latest fuel price increment which has seen a litre of fuel go up by 14.pesewas to sell at GHC5.21.

Speaking to Starr News, the Head of the Organization Department of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Eric Amoadu Boateng reiterated calls on government to intervene to mitigate hardship on workers.

“We feel that its most unfortunate, it has come at a wrong time. You know the challenges with the economy we fell that the position we have been calling on government for dialogue and it looks as if government is being adamant to it. The TUC will still dialogue with them and find an amicable solution to how we can sit down to discuss the many taxes on fuel prices.

He added: “You will recall that there was this price stabilization levy, formerly government was giving some subsidies now its full cost being passed on onto the consumer. We think that, that is unfortunate, in difficult time you take difficult decision so that at least we can be able to protect the average Ghanaian. So if we’re going this way then where are we heading towards? We’ve mentioned earlier on that there’s some correlation between the dollar and fuel prices and so we expect government to take some positive action to stabilize the cedi and that we’re not getting.”
