The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced adjustments in water and electricity tariffs, with a 0.34% increase in water tariffs and a 1.52% decrease in electricity tariffs set to be implemented from December 1, 2023.

For residential users, the new water rate will increase from GHS/M3 4.72 to 4.74, and for non-residential customers, it will increase from GHS/M3 14.13 to 14.19.

Industrial consumers’ price will increase from GHS/m3 25.29 to 25.38, while makers of water sachets would witness a hike from GHS/M3 22.26 to 22.34.

Regarding electricity, the pricing for residential lifeline users (0-30kWh) will drop to 0.63 from 0.64, and the cost for other residential customers (0.301kWh) will drop from GHS/M3 1.42 to GHS/m3 1.40.

The adjustment is compliant with the PURC’s Quarterly Tariff Review Mechanism, which takes into account important variables like the rate of inflation and the US dollar-to-Ghanian cedi exchange rate.

Following the Commission’s fourth-quarter tariff review for 2023, Dr. Ishmael Ackah, Executive Secretary of the PURC, made the statement.
