Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), says despite the huge revenues collected under the Mahama-led administration the state is collapsing due to its growing debt load.

“When the NDC came into office, Ghana’s total debt stock was GH¢9.5 billion. It is now GH¢90.5 billion in just seven years. This government will end this year with a debt stock of over GH¢110 billion,” he decried.

Bawumia, an economist, maintained that Ghana should have seen massive infrastructural development, but wonders why the country has been plunged into economic mess in spite of the prospects of the economy.

He accused the Mahama-led administration of misusing the numerous resources of the country without improving the lives of ordinary Ghanaians, insisting that Akufo-Addo could have done a better job than the incumbent NDC- government.

“We can’t pay teacher and nursing trainee allowances. All statutory payments – NHIS, District Assembly Common Fund, GETFund, etc – are in arrears. What have they used the money for?” he queried.

He’s hopeful of the victory of the NPP leader, Akufo-Addo in the 2016 elections to restore the country onto the path of progress and prosperity.

He was addressing NPP activists at Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region as part of the “Rise and Build” tour led by the party’s flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo.
