A British Airways passenger jet was forced to make a ‘hard stop’ landing after suffering a technical fault while in the air – just days after a different plane burst into flames.

Dramatic pictures showing the jet on the tarmac as Heathrow were shared on social networks after the plane touched down at around 10.30am this morning.

The plane had flown in from Washington DC but flight crew were forced to call in for a priority landing after discovering a technical fault.

After landing, witnesses reported seeing the jet – which is the same Boeing 777-200 model as the one that was engulfed in flames – surrounded by fire crews.

Flights into and out of the landing strip were momentarily halted as experts scoured the giant vehicle.

A British Airways spokeswoman told the Mirror it is not yet known what happened with the plane, but that experts were currently examining to find out what went wrong.

The spokeswoman added: “The flight crew requested a priority landing as a precaution, and the aircraft landed safely.

“The safety of our customers and crew is always our main concern and our highly trained pilots will never compromise this.

“We are sorry for the delay to our customers’ journeys.”
