The three kidnapped girls

The International Federation of Women Lawyers(FIDA) Ghana, wants government to tackle head on the onslaught of the recent kidnappings in the Western region.

In a Press Statement released by FIDA-Ghana and signed by its Public Relations Officer(PRO) Sandra Ankobiah said: ” FIDA-Ghana whole-heartedly supports the decision by government to deploy aid, personnel, resources, law enforcement and experts to partner with local authorities to find these girls and return them safely to their families. However, our authorities need not only to ensure a security response that enables them to bring those responsible to justice, but also to address the underlying causes of the insurgency.”

FIDA-Ghana, in its statement further condemned the rising cases of the kidnappings particularly in the Western region noting that “the abduction of these women is unacceptable; their capture and captivity is an offense to the conscience of the world; and the threat by their abductors to harm the ladies if their families do not pay the demanded ransom reflects the shocking absence of humanity and compassion.”

Cases of Kidnapping within the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis is believed to be on the high with about 7 teenagers allegedly kidnapped although the police have only documented three kidnapping cases.

The first victim Priscilla Blessing Bentum was recorded on the 17th of August 2018 at Kasaworodo, followed by the kidnapping of 18 and 15-year-old Ruth Love Quayson and Priscilla Koranchie on the 4th and the 21st of December 2018 respectively at different locations within the STMA.

Meanwhile, Kasapafmonline.com has picked reports suggesting that another lady has been kidnapped this morning. It is alleged that the kidnappers have sent a message to the family saying they are not afraid of the police.
