The Minister of Interior, Ambrose Dery has cautioned against media trial of Member of Parliament for Assin Central Ken Agyapong over the death of the investigative journalist, Ahmed Hussein Suale.
The maverick MP’s comments on live TV calling on the public to beat up Ahmed Suale has come into focus after the journalist was shot and killed by unknown assailants in Madina recently.
The Minority in Parliament demanded the arrest of Mr Agyapong, but the Interior Minister insists that will not happen.
But he assures that the government will not shield Ken Agyapong, adding that the MP cannot be presumed guilty yet.
“Everybody is equal before the law but at the same time I will want the press to be circumspect we do not have an investigation in the media, we do not want a trial in the media before we are through with investigations. While we are going and making sure that the Police are doing their work, we are also cautious of peoples fundamental human rights and we should make sure that we do not declare people guilty before they are pronounced guilty by a court.”
