The Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana(TUTAG) has threatened a legal action against the National Council for Tertiary Education(NCTE) over an audit report that suggests that most of its lecturers have been teaching without proper qualifications.
According to TUTAG, the report is erroneous and seeks to destroy the image of lecturers in Technical Universities across the country.
The Chairman of the Greater Accra branch of TUTAG, Ibrahim Zubairu in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM said its decision is necessary in order to salvage the image of lecturers in Technical Universities.
“We are considering to do it for the destruction of our image… I spent money, somebody spent money to study and come, if you say somebody was not promoted properly for God sake at your workplace do you promote yourself? Somebody sat down, looked at your documentation and promoted you. Are you indicting the group who sat down and promoted somebody?”Dr. Ibrahim Zuabairu questioned.
Meanwhile the NCTE has defended the report insisting it couldn’t have been erroneous considering the calibre of people that undertook the audit and authored the report as well.
The Executive Secretary of the NCTE, Professor Mohammed Salifu said his outfit composed a team of experienced academicians to do the audit who understand exactly what is required to be teaching in the University or in Senior administrative positions.
