The Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana(TUTAG) has declared an indefinite nationwide strike to demand for better conditions of service.
According to the Association, staff of the various technical universities still lack emoluments of the university lecturer since the upgrading of eight polytechnics to universities.
Addressing a Press conference on Monday, TUTAG President, Dr. Solomon Keelson also registered his frustration at an audit by the National Council for Tertiary Education(NCTE) in which they alleged the ranks of some members were deliberately downgraded.
“NCTE is still holding the NAB report in its bosom without any justifiable reason. We demand that it is immediately released for staff to know their fate in order to take the necessary step to rectify their status.
“It should be noted that TUTAG has been very cooperative and has fulfilled all conditions precedent for the implementation of conditions of service of public universities. However government has failed, refused or neglected to fulfill its part, and this has generated uncontrollable tension at various campuses.
“TUTAG has been left with no choice but to embark on an indefinite strike action to press home our demands on government to implement the conditions of service of public universities for staff of Technical universities and the released of the NAB report by the NCTE.”
