The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has said that the almost daily recordings of violence in the society should be a wakeup call to all that matters to immediately flush out vigilantes from the country.
Vigilantes, he noted, are gangsters and should not in any way be entertained in the Ghanaian society.
“Vigilantes are just visiting mayhem. These are bandits. In fact, they are gangsters that we have to do away with. We need firm leadership to take control of the situation and put them behind bars”, he noted.
Interacting with Kwaku Owusu Agyei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM, Tuesday, Hon. Bagbin who is contesting for the vacant flagbearer position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), said although the vigilantism must curtailed, one must also bear in mind that the situation is partly because unemployment.
“One of the things of nature is that man must eat and that one you can’t do anything about it. And so, if he is not getting anything to eat, he is just easy prey for any evil intended person to buy the services of the person because the person wants to survive. In fact, once they see there is no way, the system is not creating way for them to benefit, they start creating their own – that is building personal strength. That is why you see people doing exercises trying to build muscles for them to use power or force to achieve their aims”, he explained.
He added that the dividends of democracy is not sipping down since there are a lot of waste at the top, a situation he insisted, must change for all to benefit.
