The NDC National Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo is expected to honour an invitation by the Police CID today, Monday, to help in investigations into a leaked tape that is linked to him that is said to have national security implications.

The Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service on Wednesday February 27 invited the National Democratic Congress over the leaked tape in which he is allegedly heard calling for relentless attacks on the chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Jean Mensa.

In the leaked audio, Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo told party communicators that “we’re going to take her [EC boss] to the cleaners.”

“As for the EC chair, we must wage a relentless war on this EC chair. Me, she doesn’t want to see my face,” Ofosu-Ampofo allegedly said at the meeting which took place after the Ayawaso by-election.

As part of strategic communication plans for the NDC going into the 2020 elections, Ofosu-Ampofo also gave his blessings for the communicators to verbally attack the Peace Council chairman Professor Emmanuel Asante.

Meanwhile, the NDC has strongly denied contents of the leaked tape saying that the statements and attributions contained on the said tape are concocted and false and “inconsistent with the character and track record of Chairman Ofosu Ampofo and do not reflect the values he has always stood for.”

Meanwhile, the Greater Accra Regional NDC secretariat has served notice that hundreds of members of the party will besiege the CID Headquarters today, Monday to throw their support behind their National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.

At a Press conference on Sunday addressed by the Regional Organizer, Anthony Nukpenu, he called on all NDC supporters and sympathizers in Greater Accra to join and show to President Akufo-Addo and his “surrogates” that the NDC cannot be cowed or intimidated. “We will defend democracy”.

According to him, they will defend the country against those who seek to turn Ghana into what he described as one party dictatorship.

“We will fight against the use of state institutions like the Ghana Police Service against political opponents of the Akufo-Addo regime”.
