The Electoral Commission (EC) has moved its motion for an extension of time to be able to implement the Representation of the People’s Amendment Act (ROPAA).

In court today, Justin Amenuvor Counsel for the EC told the Human Right Court that, the removal of the former EC boss and her two deputies crippled the commission into complying with the court’s earlier orders.

According to him, now that a new EC boss and her deputies have been put in place, they are ready to comply with the orders but would need time.

He, however, prayed for the court to grant their application for extension of time.

But counsel for the respondents Samson Lardy Anyenini while opposing to the motion said, the EC ever since the orders were made in December 2017 had shown no effort into implementing the orders.

He argued that the EC has also failed to show even with draft to indicate that they have started the process for which reason they needed an extension.

Counsel told the court that even if the orders of the court were made in error, the EC ought to have complied with before asking for time.

The Human Right Court presided over by Justice Nicholas Mensah Abodakpi has been adjourned to April 8, 2019 for the respondents to continue with their reply.
