Mortuary workers have suspended their planned strike action scheduled to have started today May 2, 2018, as they meet the Fair Wages and Salary Commission today.

The workers had announced they will lay down their tools as they press home their demand for better working conditions.

“We are going to meet today we expect that Fair Wages will come up with an official communication and documentation in terms of the roadmap for the negotiation. The strike as it is we have estimated and quantified the havoc that it’s going to have on Ghanaians looking at the timing especially 2nd May and the fact that it’s going to happen on Thursday to Friday we think that the response from the public is so serious and government has officially extended an invitation, it is just fair that we oblige to the invitation and help solve the problem. All that we want is for us to resolve the issue, once that is going to be done there’s no need embarking on the strike.” The General Secretary of the Mortuary Workers Association, Richard Kofi Jordan said in an interview.

This will would have been their third nationwide strike in less than twelve months.

Members of the Association, in March 2019, laid down their tools over low salaries and poor working conditions.

The strike was called off few days after the launch of the protest following a crucial meeting with the National Labour Commission that restored hope.
