One person has been arrested while two others are on the run for allegedly inflicting machete wounds on a Level 300 Student of the University of Ghana.

The victim, Daniel Osei, a Psychology student was attacked by armed men on campus on Saturday night.

Osei was brutally hacked and sustained several cutlass wounds on his head and arms during the attack. He was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital in the capital Accra for treatment.

Reports say he was in the company of some other colleagues who had gone out at dawn in search of food to eat after studying deep into the night.

They were reportedly attacked by persons suspected to be armed robbers along the road leading from Pentagon to the Evandy hostel which is situated on the campus of the University.

The Greater Accra Police Operations Commander Chief. Supt. Kwasi Ofori in an interview stated that the police has taken over investigation and will do everything possible to arrest the perpetrators.

“So far, one person has been arrested in connection with the matter and the full investigations will be carried out to ascertain whether we can get other suspects in addition. The University of Ghana has a large tract of land and there are so many entry points. The victim was violently attacked as the crime scene depicts but we are so determined to unravel who the attackers are and bring them to justice.”

“Meanwhile, it is important that the police partners the security of the university to ensure holistic security. In view of this, we are deploying patrol teams and assault motorbikes to partner their counterparts at the university to patrol the entire corridor and other places of interest and we’ll be working in partnership to ensure that we stop such crimes and that we are able to protect members of the university community and environs.” Chief Supt. Ofori added.
