The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is denying busing some senior high school students to the Kumasi Jubilee Park for a Youth Connect event during the party’s flagbearer and Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s visit.
This comes after the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) called out the Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum and school authorities for allowing students to leave the school for a political event.
However, the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Director of Communications, Paul Kwabena Yandoh in an interview with Starr News said the presence of the students at the event was a mere coincidence.
“The programme started around 5:30pm and as a result we had a lot of day students who had closed from school and returning to their homes finding their way to the youth connect event. Everybody was trying to connect with Dr. Bawumia. The programme was about the youth and every secondary school student is a youth and so when they see a lot of people there who are their age mate definitely there will be that attraction which drew them to the programme. So, we will not say we bused anybody to the event, just that we have a lot of day students around this area. KTI is just close by, T.I Amass is just close by.”
