The late Ghanaian Dancehall/Afrobeat artiste, Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng popularly known in showbiz circles as Ebony Reigns has for the second year retained her position as the VGMA Artiste of the year.

The Organizers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards in a press conference have revealed that the award categories for Most Popular Song of the Year and Artiste of the Year for the 20th Edition have been annulled. Thus the continuous reign of the Late Singer Ebony.

The decisions reached by Charterhouse Productions follow after the unfortunate fracas which occurred between Reggae/Dancehall artistes Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy during the just ended VGMA’s.

According to the 2019 VGMA board, both artistes did not only disrupt the entire event but have also marred the entire country’s name and made waste the utmost hard work put into the event by each and every stakeholder involved.

Therefore as a consequence of their actions, the board has decided to sanction both artistes solely on the grounds of the VGMA’s and their connections to it.

Both artistes can continue to do their individual jobs and could be called to participate in other shows that would be organized by Charterhouse Productions and Vodafone Ghana except the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards from which they have been indefinitely banned.

Below are the VGMA Board’s decision on the Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy Fracas:

The board of the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, deem the actions of Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy to have flouted the terms and conditions of the scheme, brought the name of the event into disrupt and therefore wish to sanction the two as follows:

That both musicians are hereby banned indefinitely from participating in the nominations, selections and performances at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards scheme.

Also, the two artistes are hereby stripped of all awards they won at the 20th VGMA and are thus requested by the board to return all plaques in their possession to Charterhouse effective immediately.

Furthermore, the two remaining awards unannounced on the night, i.e. Most Popular Song of the Year and Artiste of the Year, have for the 20th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards been nullified.

The board of the VGMA is thankful to all stakeholders who helped to arrive at the aforementioned decision!

Thank you.
