At least some seven staff of the Economic and Organised Crime Office(EOCO) have been dismissed for extortion and conflict of interest within the last two years.
The move is part of an ongoing house cleaning exercise to purge the agency of miscreants and reduce public perception of corruption at EOCO.
Speaking at a stakeholder engagement on the activities of EOCO organised under the theme:” Combating organised crime in Ghana: a shared responsibility”, Executive Director of EOCO, COP Frank Adu Poku said EOCO is set to increase engagement with the media and the general public in the spirit of transparency.
On her part, Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo, urged EOCO to strike a balance between the demand for information and what is given out, as it has a tendency of jeopardizing investigations citing the case of the Takoradi girls as an example.
