Two armed robbers have been gunned down by police in Upper West Regional capital of Wa.

The robbers engaged the police in a shoot-out during a police operation Friday morning.

One of the robbers, Fataw according to the police is a notorious criminal who is standing trial for other criminal activities in the region.

Inspector Gideon Boateng, the Deputy Upper West Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), who confirmed the incident narrated that Fataw and his accomplice, Nabil Abdul Hakeem were seen by the police riding a motorbike on the SSNIT-Nakori road holding a goat that had its mouth tied to prevent it from bleating.

The suspects who are motorbike mechanics, upon spotting a team of police on patrol duties started firing at the officers.

The police, who were also riding a motorbike, returned fire at the suspects with several and in the process hitting them on the lower parts of their bodies.

After the suspects were subdued, they threw their arms – two pistols – into a nearby bush in a bid to hide them from the police.

The pistols are yet to retrieved from the bush. Currently, a search is ongoing for the gun.
