Most retrenched workers of the Obuasi Gold Mines are likely to be engaged by the company again as part of the re-establishment process of the mine.

Obuasi Mine, at the end of 2014 retrenched most of its workforce, after ceasing underground production to limit operations at the mines.

Chief Executive Officer of AngloGold Ashanti, Srinivasan Venkatakrishnan, in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM said:‘We have to look at what the feasibility studies and labour plan shows for restarting the line and it will be the case of the best person for the job, at the end of the day you cannot run an operation in Ghana without the participation of the Ghana workforce’

A joint venture investment which has been concluded between AngloGold Ashanti and Randgold Resources Limited will see Obuasi Gold Mines bounce back to its full mechanized mine operations.

The Obuasi Gold Mines has been running limited operations since the end of last year. However the joint venture will re-develop and power the operations of the mine, officials say.
