At least three farm workers of a private farm at Amotare -Sinor in the Fanteakwa North District of the Eastern region are in critical condition after being trapped in a devastating bushfire.
The victims; Luther Martin, 36, Yaw Nurmagbo, 24 and Adjei Richmond, 43, suffered severe burns and were quickly rushed to the Begoro District hospital for medical treatment.
However, two of the victims, Luther Martin and Adjei Richmond have been referred to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after their conditions deteriorated.
Starr News has gathered that the incident occurred Monday, February 3, 2020, at around 8:40 am.
The victims were among some twenty (20) farm workers of Asikas farms, a farm to produce raw material to supply a Processing factory being put up under One- District-one Factory by a private investor in the District.
According to an eye witness, while working in pear plantation farm, they noticed a bushfire spreading towards the farm hence decided to quickly create a firebreak to insulate the farm but were caught up by the inferno. Whereas many managed to escape, the three victims including Manager of the farms suffered serious burns almost all over their bodies.
The fire also gutted the pear plantation and reportedly consumed the farm which is estimated to be over two hundred (200) acres.
Meanwhile the Fanteakwa District Fire Safety Officer, Wilmot Owusu Ayeh told Starr News investigation has commenced into the incident.
