The Ranking Member of the Health Committee, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has sent a caution message to the President and his entourage who just returned from Norway, to stop roaming about and quarantine themselves for fourteen days before attending any public event.

This, he noted, will prevent the spread of the Coronavirus or COVID-19 if the President or any of his entourage has contracted the virus.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of Parliamentary sitting, Wednesday, Mr. Akando who is also the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Juaboso, said his call was based on a recent advise from the Ghana Health Service that urged returnees from countries that have recorded cases of COVID-19 or Coronavirus to stay away from any public event for at least fourteen days.

He said it would have been best for the President and his entourage to at least self-quarantine themselves for 14 days before attending any public event.

The Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service recently issued a health alert statement advising the public on how to avoid contracting the Coronavirus.

It outlines a number of measures for the public to adhere to, key amongst them are the avoidance of a handshake and the covering of the mouth or nose when coughing or sneezing in public.

It also advised that anyone who has returned from countries that have recorded cases of the Coronavirus to self-quarantine or stay away from the public for at least fourteen days.

In the view of Akandoh, the President must lead by example and adhere to the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service.

“This is what the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service are saying that if you have recently arrived from any of the countries that have recorded a case, we advise you to stay away from the crowd (self-quarantine) for at least fourteen days. This is the Ministry and the Ghana Health Service speaking. But what are we witnessing – the President has returned from Norway and he is all over. We have heard that this Coronavirus has killed a whole Vice-President of Iran. We have heard that a whole deputy Minister of Health has been infected with this deadly virus. So, I will advise and I am very serious about it that the President and his entourage must quarantine themselves for at least fourteen days. This is a guideline issued by the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service and they must adhere to it”, he advised.
