President Akufo-Addo has justified his government’s investment in the Free Senior High School policy, noting the education sector has been the biggest beneficiary of his government’s budgetary allocation since he became president.

Speaking at a Presidential media briefing to call for urgent action to tackle the learning crisis that faces Africa, President Akufo-Addo took a jab at his critics saying investments in education is the surest way to developing the country.

“Unfortunately, there are political leaders who make statements like if I have 2billion cedis I will not spend it on Free education. It’s unfortunate that we have leadership of that sort here in Ghana. But the key for us is to recognize that unless we make the investments, and when you are making investments you are having to make choices between several options. We have to recognize that somethings within our limited resources we may not be able to address at the same time as investments that we are making in education.

“Education represents the biggest segment of our nation’s budget and it has been so since I assumed office seven and a half years ago, and it will continue to be a pattern in our country.”
