The leadership of the Assemblies of God Church, Ghana has suspended temporarily all foreign travels by its entire pastorate.

In a letter issued by the General Council of the A/G Church, Ghana to all Regional Superintendents and sighted by Kaspafmonline.com said:”…no Pastor shall be given an Introduction letter to any of the Embassies within the period Of the temporary hold-up”

The coronavirus pandemic, spreading slowly in sub-saharan Africa, may also have implications for other International conferences and events AG-Ghana has been billed to host in the next few months, the letter noted.

The decision taken by the Church comes after Ivory Coast on Wednesday confirmed its first case of coronavirus, involving a 45-year-old Ivorian man who had recently travelled to Italy, the health ministry said on Wednesday.

As of Wednesday, March, 11, 2020, Ghanaian health officials had recorded 57 suspected cases of the disease which have all been tested negative.

President, Nana Akufo-Addo in an address on Wednesday, 11th March, 2020 said its imperative that the country steps up its preparedness to ensure it adopts what he calls “a whole of Ghana approach” in fighting the global plague notwithstanding the current satisfactory measures in Ghana’s response plan.

Ghana’s Ministry of Health has been allotted an amount of USD 100 million to help prepare and contain an outbreak of the deadly coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), President Akufo-Addo disclosed in an address on Wednesday.

Ivory Coast, Francophone West Africa’s largest economy, is the eighth country in sub-Saharan Africa to report a confirmed case after Nigeria, Senegal, Cameroon, Togo, South Africa, Burkina Faso and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

South Africa announced six new cases of the virus on Wednesday, bringing its total to 13, the most in sub-Saharan Africa. North African countries have also recorded nearly 100 cases.
