The Effutu Municipal Health Directorate has categorically stated that no case of coronavirus (Covid-19) has been recorded in the Effutu Municipality (Winneba) in the Central Region ever since the pandemic.
This comes after rumours circulated on social media that a case of the deadly disease has been identified in the coastal town.
A statement signed by Emmanuel Edum-Fotwe, Municipal Director of Health Services, Dr. Prah George Kwame, Medical Director, Trauma & Specialist Hospital and Dr. Akwasi Bota, Medical Superintendent, Winneba Municipal Hospital said “the Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the Municipal Health Directorate, Trauma and Specialist Hospital, Winneba Municipal Hospital and all other relevant agencies has formed a Municipal Public Health Emergency Management Committee to work to fight against the spread of COVID-19 in Effutu Municipality.”
Within this Committee, various sub-committees have been established to carry out various activities to combat the spread of COVID-19. The sub-committee include:
The Risk Communications Sub-Committee, which is responsible for educating the public and other vulnerable areas. Currently, there is ongoing education on radio, flyers, and posters are also being produced for specific individuals and targeted groups.
There is a Monitoring Sub-Committee that is responsible for monitoring all areas and activities that are being carried out to identify gaps and address them.
There is a Resource Mobilization Sub-Committee that is responsible for identifying and procuring the resources that are required for combating the COVID-19 in the Municipality.
There is a Rapid Response Sub-Committee that is responsible for quickly responding to investigate every alert. The Trauma and Specialist Hospital has been identified as the place for holding any suspected case and, if, confirmed, isolated and given treatment.
There is also a Contact Tracing Sub-Committee which is responsible for tracing every contact of the identified case, should we have a case.
There is the Community Engagement Sub-Committee that is responsible for engaging the communities, traditional leaders, community leaders in providing more education and interaction with communities to ensure adequate behavioral changes to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
These sub-committees have started their work and some are already on the airwaves giving education on how to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
