Huge crowds at Kwahu Easter festival

The Kwahu Traditional Council has said it is too early to decide on whether or not Kwahu Easter would be celebrated following the coronavirus outbreak.

After declaring Nananom’s intention to support the government in the fight against COVID-19 in Kwahu, AkyeameHene Nana Asiedu Kwarbeng IV emphasized their willingness to ensure the citizens adhere to the protocols.

Last year, the number of activities usually held annually as part of the Easter celebrations in Kwahu was suspended.

A statement from the Kwahu Traditional Council dated 16th March 2020 stated that the only reason one should visit any of the palaces should be for circumstances beyond their control.

Engagements by Nananom within the Kwahu Traditional Council were canceled adding that Akwasidae should be celebrated with minimal contacts and restricted to indoor traditional ceremonies.

Moreover, following the current state of the virus in the country, President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has re-imposed the ban on public gatherings as part of measures to contain the rise in COVID-19 cases in Ghana.

While addressing the country on Sunday, President Akufo-Addo said all parties, weddings and concerts are effectively banned until further notice. He warned that anyone found breaking the new directive will be severely dealt with.

Commenting on this development on Agoo FM Monday, Kwahu AkyeameHene Nana Asiedu Kwarbeng IV speaking on behalf of the Kwahu Traditional Council commended the president for re-imposing the ban on public gathering.

According to him, the President yesterday delivered what the traditional authority has planned adding we are going to enforce the law to ensure the citizens are safe so far as covid-19 is concerned.

“For now, no one can decide whether or not Kwahu Easter festive would be celebrated. Let’s protect our life first, that is the most important thing. The Easter celebration is always there for us but it will be difficult for one to say the Easter would be called off, or vice versa.” he stated.
