The former Auditor-General, Daniel Domelevo has resorted to giving praise to his maker in his predicaments, when he is forced into retirement by the President.
Mr. Domelevo took to his Facebook page and shared a hymn of thanksgiving moments after the letter communicating his retirement was released by the Presidency.
The embattled Auditor-General is comforted by popular hymn ‘Now thank we all our God’ composed by German Lutheran clergyman Martin Rinckart in 1636.
“Now thank we all our God
With hearts and hands and voices,
Who wondrous things hath done,
In whom his earth rejoices;
Who, from our mothers’ arms,
Hath blessed us on our way
With countless gifts of love
And still is ours today.“
President Nana Akufo Addo has asked the embattled Auditor-General, Daniel Yao Domelevo to stop holding himself as such.
According to a letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo, the President’s attention has been drawn to records and documents made available by the Audit Service, that indicate Mr Domelevo’s date of birth as 1st June, 1960, and in accordance with Article 199(1) of the Constitution, his date of retirement as Auditor-General was 1st June, 2020.
“Based on this information, the President is of the view that you have formally left office. Mr Johnson Akuamoa-Asiedu will continue to act as Auditor-General until the President appoints a substantive Auditor-General,” the letter stated.
Mr Daniel Yao Domelevo resumed work Wednesday, March 3 following the expiration of the 167-day ‘forced’ leave directive from the Presidency in July 2020.
He reported to work despite a petition challenging his nationality and date of birth.
Critics including anti-corruption campaigners say the high-handed decision smacks of hounding Mr Domelevo from office.
Johnson Akuamoa-Asiedu will continue to act in Mr Domelevo’s stead until a substantive appointment is made.
