A Political Science Lecturer at the Methodist University College, Dr. Bonsu Osei Wusu has predicted that hard times await the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the suspension of their Naitonal Chairman, Paul Awentime Afoko.

According to him, he will not be surprised if the party finds itself in court in the coming days battling their way out after the suspension decision they took Friday morning over their party leader.

“I believe that in the subsequent days ahead of us the NPP will be battling the suspension of Afoko at the court rather than strategizing for their campaign for election 2016,” he said in an interview with Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Si Me So on Kasapa 102.3 FM Friday.

He said though the Council of Elders of the party have achieved what they requested from the Disciplinary Committee, the suspension of Mr. Afoko will spell doom for the elephant family and give political advantage to their competitors.

“The decision will never help the NPP in their quest to wrestling power from the NDC. So, if they are not careful, they will be using much of their time in battling this suspension issue and their political opponents will take advantage it.”

He said there could be no to blame for the impasse other than the bigwigs in the party, believing that former President John Agyekum Kufour, the party’s 2016 Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo should have stood tall to calm nerves down.

He also blamed the Council of Elders as well as the National Executives of the party for the current state of the elephant family.

“I have always said from the begining that the NPP’s biggest problem is their Council of Elders the very moment they took a decision for Afoko to be suspended.”

“I think that the issue should have rather started from the grassroot to the top but here is a case that it started from the top where they took sides. So, even if Afoko has a problem, where should he have gone to?”

“The Chairman and the other executives of the party are also partly to be blamed in this regard.”
