Former broadcaster, and Entrepreneur Bridget Otoo has said the significant delay in NAM 1’s case is concerning.
According to her, it’s very sad that the long-awaited justice for ordinary Ghanaians and families allegedly scammed in the “NAM 1 Ponzi Scheme” is not forthcoming in a timely fashion.
“I’m so glad NAM1 is back in the news. The reason why I mentioned his name is that he’s in court, it’s so slow and it looks like it’s a deliberate thing. Is the state interested in the people who have lost their savings?” she questioned in an interaction with host Nana Aba Anamoah on Starr Chat Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Circuit Court in Accra has adjourned the trial of the CEO of defunct Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah aka NAM1 to May 27.
This was because, the sitting judge, Her Honour Evelyn Asamoah has taken her leave.
In court on Tuesday, April, 15,2021 when all the parties were present, the Clerk of the Court upon instructions adjourned the cases to later dates.
NAM 1 was in court with a heavy security presence.
Warning
At the last court sitting on March 2, the court warned it would be forced to strike out the case in which Chief Executive officer (CEO) of Menzgold Ghana Limited Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM1) has been arraigned for defrauding.
The court is unhappy about the delay on the part of the prosecution to file the necessary documents to commence the trial.
On that day, ASP Sylvester Asare, the prosecutor in the case, again prayed the court, to give them more time be to able to file their witness statement and other documents.
It was the case of the prosecution that, the number of victims involved in the case is over 16, 000 people and therefore more time would be required by the prosecution to do the necessary investigations.
ASP Asare prayed with the court for time and begged the court not to strike out the case.
Commenting on the fall out from NAM 1’s case, Bridget Otoo said it’s regrettable that the nation wants to “celebrate a con artist because he’s bought musicians and movies actors.”
“I am angry that such a person scammed Ghanaians.I’m so upset that NAM1 scammed people in the country. I won’t give him a seat anywhere.
“It’s like using God in Ghana is the easiest way to scam people. When I see people like NAM1 thriving on scam, it’s infuriating.
“I knew Menzgold was a Ponzi scheme. It’s was a scam and if you’re a beneficiary and you’re happy because you didn’t perpetuate that crime, you’re also guilty.”
