Former Auditor-General Daniel Domelevo left office because he had attained retirement age, that’s according to President Akufo-Addo as he defends his anti-corruption record.
According to the President, Ghana’s position on the global fight against corruption rankings has improved since he assumed power in 2017.
President Akufo-Addo was heavily slammed by Ghanaians mainly members of Civil Society Organizations and the members of opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) after he asked Mr. Domelevo to proceed on retirement.
Speaking on the issue on US-based TV network CNN, President Akufo Addo stated that Mr Domelevo exited office by the operation of law.
“The laws of our country, and the Auditor-General like me we should be some of the first to recognize the laws of our country. If you are sixty years old, you are supposed no longer to work in the public service. The Auditor-General came to sixty years old and had to retire, he was not forced out of office. He left office by the operation of law.”
