Over a hundred households have been displaced or rendered homeless by the torrential rainfall that hit the capital city yesterday.
About two hundred lives have been reported dead with several others receiving treatment at various hospitals in Accra, especially, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
Some affected persons told Kasapafmonline.com in an interview that they fled their various houses to seek refuge in nearby structures.
“I was trapped by the rain in town. I got home around 1:00am. When I got here, the entire place was flooded. The water had reached the window level. So, I told my wife and kids to immediately get out of here before something silly happen to us. We ended up at a friend’s place who was safer in there”, recounts Kofi Adjei, a taxi driver who resides at Mallam Junction.
“It was a like a hell seeing my entire place flooded. I couldn’t withstand it. The water kept coming in. So, I told my children to quickly get out of here. It was about 12:30 am. We didn’t sleep here… we slept in a container some few meters from here. It’s my sister’s container and it proved to be useful”, a local restaurant operator, Comfort Klottey told Kasapafmonline.com.
In Glefe and parts of Tetegu, all suburbs of Accra, more households were seen tidying up the wreck.
Signs of the devastation were clearly visible.
