A Ghanaian Gospel musician and Founder of the Mame Serwaa Ministry has admonished the youth to eschew deviant behaviors like drug abuse, alcohol, smoking, and other social vices to reduce the number of inmates in prisons.

According to Mame Serwaa, the rate at which young persons enter prison is shocking and appalling.

She is sure if the youth were attentive to the word of God they would have avoided all the bad activities thereby preventing themselves from prison.

She noted “I have realized that many of the youth don’t really abide by the teachings of God, that’s why you will see them committing some vices, I think it’s high time they became committed to God’s word to prevent all these ”

Speaking to the media after donating some items to the Kumasi Central Prison, she fears the prisons may wane the young and energetic population of the country hence reducing the active workforce.

The Gospel Musician explained that the youth are the most productive force of every country so if many are being thrown into prisons, it may affect the strength of the nation’s economy due to inadequate labor force.

She called on parents and guardians to ensure that their wards are properly trained and catered for both in school and at home to bring down the spate at which young persons enter prison.

Madam Serwaa encouraged other Gospel Musicians to also inculcate the habit of helping others since supporting the needy is also part of God’s work.

The items donated include sanitary pads, toothpastes, books, makers, pens, and other valuable items to Kumasi Central Prison female inmates.

Receiving the items on behalf of the inmates, Superintendent of Prisons Mr. Samuel Aseidu expressed gratitude and encouraged her to do more.

He also appealed to government and other benevolent Organizations to either expand or build a new prison to minimize the huge congestion at the central prison.
