The Chairman of the Electoral Commission(EC), Ms Charlotte Osei says stringent laws and stiffer punishment must be set in place to deal with minors and parents who are found culpable in an illegality.

She says purging the electoral roll from the registration of minors and foreigners required assistance from the entire citizenry, and the political parties to deal with it, adding that ‘the commission by itself cannot ensure credible register’.

Ms Charlotte Osei, delivering the EC’s position on the voters register said that apart from impersonation, all other allegations such as Double registration, Multiple registration, Registration of Minors, Registration of Foreigners etc – have remained the same since 1992.

she told the NPP to produce a copy of the Togolese register to aid the commission do a proper comparison of the two in ascertaining the veracity of the claims of the NPP.

“We are not requesting because we don’t have it or we may not be able to secure it. He who alleges must prove, if you claim to have done some analysis on that register, it’s just fair that you make it available to us. That will also be in the spirit of transparency, time is of the essence in this regard.”

The much-talked about forum came to a closure Friday.

The EC is expected to put together recommendations that will see the final determination of the voters register.
