A Governance and Security expert, David Abge says the Electoral Commission (EC) is not likely to accede to the demands of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for a new voters register ahead of the 2016 elections.

He said judging by the presentation of EC yesterday at the forum, the commission can procure for an audit of the current roll, to rid the electoral database of any irregularity.

“I do not see clearly that the Electoral Commission will prefer a new voters register. Looking at the demeanour of the EC, I’m convinced that they are going to do a cleaning/auditing as far as the voters register is concern.”

In his analysis after the forum with Accra-based Joy FM Friday, Mr Agbe said the two-day public forum has minimised the simmering tensions that surrounded the voters register months ago.

“The contention on the voters register brought uneasiness and tension in the country, however the forum has provided the citizenry with a reasonable level of information. The forum has critically been useful.”

The much-talked about forum came to a closure Friday.

The EC is expected to put together recommendations that will see the final determination of the voters register.
