The Electoral Commission (EC) says the panel made to coordinate the forum on the voters register will not delay in furnishing the commission with the necessary recommendations as expected.

He said since the EC and the panel have both agreed that ” time is of the essence here with regards to elections” he believes the panel will speed up its work and forward their recommendations as early as possible.

He’s maintained that it is an ill-considered remark by some sections of the public that the forum was only a mere formality and that it wont change the EC’s direction on the current register

Speaking on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM in an interview with sit-in host Yaa Serwaa Akoto on Monday, the Public Affairs Director of the EC, Christian Owusu Parry said the forum has rather been a useful and good platform for the various stakeholders to put across their viewpoints on the country’s electoral process as a whole.

Although the panel’s work is influential in this case, Parry says it will not at all cost be the means of attaining what becomes of the document ahead of 2016 elections. According to him, the EC will go in the direction per the overriding national interest of the country against the outcome of the forum.

“At the end of the day, the final  decision will come from the commission. As such if the panel brings their recommendations, and as election administrator, the EC believes that implementing such recommendations will be problematic, we’ll have to vary those recommendations.”

The much-talked about forum came to a closure Friday.

The EC is expected to put together recommendations that will influence the final determination of the voters register.
