Minority Leader in Parliament and lawmaker for Tamale South Constituency Mr Haruna Iddrisu has warned security agencies in the country to be neutral, act responsibly and not to side with the ruling government to rig the next general elections in 2024.

According to the lawmaker, his party is going to take such a step because they have the right to defend themselves as citizens of Ghana.

Five people were killed in election-related violence in Ghana during the 2020 general elections.

A report by the Ghana Police Service also revealed that over 60 violent incidents were recorded.

“Twenty-one of the incidents are true cases of electoral violence, six of which involve gunshots resulting in the death of five”. The report is quoted to have revealed.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) strongly believes that the ruling government led by President  Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the time used the military and the police to intimidate their party members from actively participating in the elections and claimed it was rigged.

However, speaking on GHOne TV monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu categorically stated that, his party will not allow that to happen again in the next elections.

“Get my warning, the state security agencies if they fail to demonstrate neutrality, the NDC will stand up to them in 2024. We will stand up to them because we have a right to defense. Because if they cannot be neutral, act responsibly and decide that they are going to side with the ruling elite and ruling government, we will bear the consequences with them”. Mr Haruna Iddrisu issued a stern warning

“We want the sovereign will of the Ghanaian people to reflect at the 2024 elections”, he added.
