Police have warned against the use of catapults and other implements by protestors in the ongoing Arise Ghana demonstration.

A statement issued by the Police on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 cautioned the demonstrators to abort such plans as it would not hesitate to use professional measures to de-escalate any violence.

“Police intelligence indicates that some demonstrators are going around acquiring catapults with the intention of using them during the demonstration.

“The police hereby caution these individuals who intend to foment trouble to desist from such an unlawful conduct as the police will take all necessary professionally driven measures to enforce the law and protect life and property.”

Meanwhile, police spotted the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) National Organizer, Joshua Akamba wielding a weapon around the El-Wak stadium where protestors have converged to embark on the Krom AyƐ Hye demo today, 29th June 2022.

An earlier statement posted on the Facebook page of the Ghana Police Service said Akamba was duly advised by the Police to put the weapon away after his attention was drawn to the illegality associated with such an act.

“He was also urged to notify other demonstrators to desist from carrying offensive weapons during the demonstration,” the statement added.

The Arise Ghana Pressure group is today(Wednesday) staging a second demonstration after Tuesday’s protest turned chaotic after there was disagreement between the leaders of the demonstration and the Police on which route to use.

The angry demonstrators pelted the Police with stones while the law enforcement officers responded with shots of tear gas and rubber bullets. In the ensuing confrontation, over 10 police officers and several protestors were injured.

A total of 29 protestors were subsequently arrested for their roles in the attack on the police and the vandalizing of police vehicles.

The two-day demonstration by pressure group Arise Ghana began Tuesday, June 28, 2022 midday.
