Two police officers who sustained various degrees of injuries during the Arise Ghana demonstration this week are reportedly undergoing emergency surgeries at the police hospital, police say.

The recorded casualties on the side of the police officers increased from twelve (12) to fifteen (15) during the chaotic demonstration.

A statement issued on the Facebook page of the Ghana Police Service expressed appreciation to the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery for leading a team of government officials to visit the injured officers at the hospital.

“The Police Administration wishes to express its appreciation to members of the public for their show of love and support for the affected officers” the statement added.

The Arise Ghana “Krom AyƐ Hye” demonstration turned chaotic after Police fired tear gas at the protesters on the first day of the demonstration.

The chaos ensued after a disagreement over the route for the march resulting in the police blocking the Kwame Nkrumah interchange road with no movement from either vehicle or persons.

Viral pictures and videos on social media showed some demonstrators pelting stones at the Police.

The group which is made up of different political parties protested the alleged corruption in the Akufo-Addo government, persistent and astronomical hikes in fuel prices by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government,  the imposition of the E-Levy, grabbing of state lands by officials of government, and Covid-19 expenditures among others.

Twenty-nine of the protesters who were arrested have been granted police enquiry bail.

The two-day demonstration by pressure group Arise Ghana began Tuesday, June 28, 2022 midday and ended on Wednesday, June 29, 2022.
