A police in Kumasi have arrested a student and a police officer for allegedly gang raping a first-year student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) .

One of the suspects Joel Osei Owusu, a Level 400 Business Administration student, is alleged to have lured the victim into his room at Ultimate Hostel, formerly Evandy Hostel, and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.

Police say the suspect, who claims to be clothes dealer, invited the student into his hostel under false pretence of supplying her clothes when he saw her advertising her clothing business on Facebook.

The police explained the suspect upon convincing the lady to his room forcibly had unprotected sexual intercourse with her and recorded the sexual act with his mobile phone.

Suspect Joel Osei Owusu after the act allegedly locked the victim in his room with her phone sized and later invited his friend identified as General L/Cpl Frank Adu-Poku into the room who also had sex with her.

The KNUST management disclosed the incident happened on Tuesday, July 19, at about 2:30 pm after the victim had closed from lectures.

Two days later, the victim disclosed the incident to her friend who later reported it to the Dean of her department following which the suspect was arrested by the KNUST private security and later handed  to the police.

The suspect allegedly confirmed raping the  student and led the police to arrest the second suspect, the Police officer.

Upon interrogation, the suspect admitted to having had carnal knowledge of the complainant and mentioned General L/Cpl Frank Adu-Poku as his accomplice.

The two suspects are currently have remanded into police custody by the Asokore Mampong district Court to reappear on August 10th, 2022.

Police Prosecutor, ACP Kofi Blagodzi, told the court a duplicate docket is being prepared to be forwarded to the Office of the Attorney General for advice.
