The fate of a 12-year-old girl swings after she was allegedly defiled by a middle-aged man at Choggu, a suburb of the Tamale Metropolis.
Some relatives who want to remain anonymous narrated that the victim was drugged by the perpetrator on his veranda before the alleged sexual attack on her.
After reporting the case to the police and the chief of the area by the victim’s family, the suspect, Abass Mustapha, allegedly organized some hoodlum who attacked the victim’s family, beat them up, and vandalized their properties. The community chief and the police are said to be under pressure to shield the suspect after he was arrested and granted bail.
It is believed that the suspect is a respected person in the community hence the victim’s family now live in fear after the first violent attack on them. The assemblyman of the area has refused to comment on the incident.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director of Northern Sector Action on Awareness Centre (NORSAAC), a gender-based Non-Governmental Organization based in Tamale, Alhassan Mohammed Awal is worried that the police are dragging their feet on the issue.
