Suspension on the issuance of new permits for Petroleum Service Providers (PSPs) took effect from May, 2015 Public Relations Officer for regulator National Petroleum Authority, Yaro Kasambata has said.

He maintained it took the NPA some time to decide on that as they needed to take stock of the activities of the Filling stations to ensure all laws were complied with.

He told Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM that their checks together with complaints by the public on the mushrooming of Filling Stations have compelled them to hit the brakes on the process.

A minimum of 3,600 Filling Stations are currently operating in the sector across-board, and the safety of Ghanaians has been given consideration, Yaro stated.

“The suspension affects applications submitted to us from the said date.”

Unannounced visits, and spot checks undertaken by the NPA to monitor the activities of the already existing PSPs would go on, Yaro says.
