A member of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) Communications Team, Solomon Owusu has confidently stated that Minister for Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen who’s set to contest the party’s Flagbearer race will win not less than 70% of votes cast in the 5 regions up north of the country.

According to him, the fact that incumbent Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who’ll be a key contender for the position hails from the Northern Region will not guarantee him votes from the area.

This follows reports that some known supporters of Alan Kyerematen in the Northern region are being intimidated by persons known to support Vice President Bawumia.

In a recently leaked audio of a conversation between a Bawumia and Alan supporter, a supporter of Vice President Bawumia in the Northern Region is heard trying to convince the other person to stop supporting Alan Kyerematen who hails from the Southern part of Ghana and rather offer his support to Bawumia because he hails from the North.

Further, into the conversation, the Bawumia supporter is heard threatening the Alan supporter to leave the Trade and Industry Minister’s camp otherwise his cars that have been seized by the State will never be released to him. But the latter insisted that nothing will change his mind and maintained his unalloyed support for Alan.

But speaking on the “Ghana Kasa” show Kasapa FM/Agoo TV Wednesday, Solomon Owusu who’s a known loyalist of Alan Kyerematen, condemned such intimidation adding that nothing will change the minds of most NPP delegates up north to vote for Alan Kyerematen.

“You see the disgraceful things being done in this great party? The Bawumia supporter is telling the Alan supporters to quit Alan’s camp and vote for Bawumia because he’s his northern brother. Furthermore, we heard the Alan supporter asking Bawumia’s supporter whether it’s because he supports Alan that is why his cars have been seized and the Bawumia supporter answered Yes! Bawumia supporters are using State machinery to intimidate people within the NPP who don’t support Veep’s bid to become NPP Flagbearer.

“But let me tell them, I’ve thrown a challenge that we should hold the elections in just the five regions up north of the country and Alan will win not less than 70% of votes cast. I say so because the people believe in Alan Kyerematen and they are so principled that no form of intimidation will scare them to change their minds. Why should an NPP member be punished unduly because he supports Alan Kyerematen? Why should we behave this way? Such elements in the party will not be allowed to have their way.” Solomon Owusu fumed.
