The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused its disqualified aspirant in the Ketu South Parliamentary primary, Jim Yao Morti of engaging in subterfuge much to the disgrace of the party.

According to the party, Mr Morti recorded a private conversation he had with the NDC’s First Vice National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo without his consent and caused it to be played on some radio stations in the area, an action that the party views as criminal.

The disqualified candidate has sued the governing National Democratic Congress for wrongful disqualification.

Jim Yao Morti is, among other things, seeking an injunction on the impending Parliamentary primary set for November 21, 2015.

He is asking the court to make a declaration that he satisfied all the criteria needed for him to contest in Saturday’s election.

Jim Yao Morti is also asking the court to direct the NDC to include the plaintiff in the upcoming primaries or restrain the party from going ahead with the election on Saturday.

He argued the processes used by the governing party to disqualify him were highly undemocratic.

According to him, his disqualification was part of a grand scheme by the party to let the incumbent MP, Fifi Kwetey go unopposed.

Jim Yao Morti said he had fulfilled all the criteria needed for him to contest the primaries but was hit with some baseless petitions, all of which he had substantially dealt with.

However speaking to Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM, Koku Anyidoho stated that Mr Morti set himself up for disqualification with his conduct of secretly recording a chat he had with Mr Ofosu Ampofo, while he (Ofosu Ampofo) was returning to Accra after chairing the Volta Regional vetting session.

“Under the laws of Ghana to record somebody without his consent is criminal, what was his motive? So as a committee we’re saying that look….even beyond the strong issues that are already drowning you,…you went and had a private chat with Ofosu Ampofo and put it on air that alone is enough reason to disqualify you. I know that the region wrote to him and also informed the constituency that even beyond the verbal communication of his disqualification, the activities he’s engaged in the constituency is bringing the name of the party into disrepute. The party’s lawyers have received notice of the suit and will competently handle the case.”
