NPP's Sly Tetteh and NDC's Sam George

Residents of Ningo in the Ningo/Prampram constituency in the Greater Accra Region say they’ll have difficulty in choosing between the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) over which party’s parliamentary candidate to vote for in the 2016 election.

Their challenge stems from the fact that both candidates of the two major political parties hail from the same town.

NDC’s newly elected parliamentary candidate Sam George Nettey, who’s a Presidential Staffer now battle it out with the NPP’s Sylvester Tetteh who performed creditably in the 2015 elections.

Sam George beat his former political ‘god-father’ and NDC heavy weight E.T Mensah, in one of the fiercest race in the just ended primaries.

Certified results declared by the Electoral Commission official from 22 polling stations gave Samuel Nartey George, 4,910 votes representing 53.4% of total votes with ET Mensah polling 2,831 representing 38.5%.

It however remains to be seen if Sam George will be able to beat the NPP candidate who contested E.T Mensah in 2012 elections and polled 17,122, as against E.T Mensah’s 21,178 votes.

Ningo residents have over the years been unhappy with Hon. E.T Mensah accusing him of unfairly treating the town as he has concentrated on executing developmental projects in his hometown of Prampram.

The residents in an interview with Kasapa FM’s correspondent Benjamin Amuzu stated that though E.T Mensah’s defeat is welcome and his parliamentary ambition cut shot, they remain in a fix as to who should be their next Member of Parliament.

“Old Ningo has not really benefited under E.T Mensah’s tenure. Even to pay your electricity and water bills, you have to go to Prampram. Fire Service station, District Court and all major infrastructure have been cited in Prampram, not even our roads are as good as that of Prampram. E.T Mensah has never made us happy. Now we have two people from Ningo, whoever wins the 2016 election we welcome him. NPP or NDC, we’re okay.
