Dr Kwabena Donkor, Power Minister

A Lecturer at the Kumasi Polytechnic, Mr. Thomas Kusi Boafo says the Power Ministry/Ghana Gas communication gaffe in relation to the recent worsening situation of the load shedding in the country has exposed the sector Ministry as being challenged with serious management weakness.

“Kwabena Donkor should exert serious influence in his domain, this was a knee-jerk reaction and it was done in a haste without any coordination” Mr Boafo said in an interview with Kweku Owusu Adjei on Si Me So on Kasapa 102.3 FM Thursday.

The Ghana Gas Company has denied claims by the Power Ministry that the worsening power situation is as a result of a shutdown of the plants of Ghana National Gas Company Ltd (Ghana gas) at Atuabo.

A statement issued by the ministry Tuesday sought to blame the Ghana Gas Company for the intensification of the load shedding in parts of the country.

However, few moment after the Power Ministry’s statement was issued, the Ghana Gas Company also released a counter statement to contest what it says is an attempt by the Ministry to mislead Ghanaians on the ‘Dumsor’.

Corporate Communications Manager of the Ghana Gas Company, Alfred Ogbamey, in a statement said the company has no challenge, hence cannot be blamed for the acute power crisis.

Mr. Kusi commenting on the development said the blame game that both parties resorted to shows clearly their inefficiency to manage the acute power situation that has bedeviled the country.

He stated that the energy crisis in the country is a protracted predicament of Ghanaians, which he said must not be toyed with.
