Tricycle operators in Kumasi have been on a warpath following the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly’s decision to ban the operations of tricycles popularly called “Pragya” from operating within the central business district.

A scuffle between the police and tricycle operators in Kumasi on Monday had resulted in the arrest of six Pragya operators with six police officers injured.

The police reinforcement team was called by the KMA to restore calm after the tricycle operators besieged the KMA offices to retrieve their seized tricycles.

The angry operators pelted the assembly’s City guards with stones during KMA’s operation to enforce the Ban on pragya operation at the Kumasi Central Business district.

They also blocked the Kejetia to Suame road leaving passengers stranded in the evening but timely intervention of police from the Suame divisional command cleared the road to traffic.

Speaking to Kasapa News, Head of Communications at the KMA, Nana Afuah Konadu said the KMA will still go ahead with its decision despite the resistance from the Pragya operators.
