A level 200 law student at the University of Ghana (Legon), Nana Obeng Owusu Junior has been allegedly killed at the Ewim Polyclinic in Cape Coast in the Central Region by a nurse through wrong injection.
According to the mother of the deceased, Mrs. Nelly Mills, she sent her son to the aforementioned hospital for first aide because her son felt he needed a nebulizer because he was Asthmatic patient.
“We went to the hospital around 8PM last night and the alleged nurse by name Mike at emergency shouted at us why we are here by that time. He later wrote a prescription on a sheet for me to go and buy. So, I left Nana Obeng and his brother sitting there cracking jokes when leaving.
“Soon after buying the medicine, I saw my son dead, and the nurse confirmed he injected him with an unknown medicine. We came in for nebulizer and not injection which you wrote for me to go and buy I asked,” the Mum said.
According to the mother of the deceased, within 20 minutes after the death of her son, the hospital called in an ambulance to send the body to the University of Cape Coast mortuary without the concern of any family member which I even asked them to release the body for me, but the hospital refused.
‘We went to the mortuary only to find out that my son was embalmed meaning it will be very difficult for even autopsy to prove the particular substance which killed my son,’ the mother narrated.
“The most painful aspect of it is that the alleged nurse is still moving around without Police inviting him after reporting the case a day after the incident,” she added.
The mother is therefore accusing the nurse of killing her son and is demanding that the Police act on the matter after she’s reported the matter.
The family is seeking justice for the deceased.
Meanwhile, all effort to get the hospital for response has proved futile.
