Police Officer is in critical condition after a taxi cab ran over him while directing traffic at Agona Swedru in the Agona West Municipality of the Central Region.
Report gathered by Kasapa News Yaw Boagyan revealed that, the police officer, Constable Ernest Opare was directing traffic infront of the Agona Swedru Chief’s Palace Junction during a program organized by the Chiefs in the area on Thursday evening.
The event drew a lot of people causing heavy traffic in the area. As a result the police officer was called in to direct the traffic congestion.
While directing the traffic, a Hyundai i10 taxi cab, with registration number GW-6086-22 moving at top speed made a wrongful overtaking resulting it the Police officer being knocked down. The car then dragged him into a gutter leaving him with severe injuries.
Fearing for his life, the driver then got down from the car and ran away.
The injured police officer was sent to the Agona Swedru Government hospital while the taxi car has been towed to the Agona Swedru Divisional Police Command for investigation.
Meanwhile, police and the esidents have mounted a search for the taxi driver who has gone into hiding.
