Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Chairman Wontumi

The Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC) will on Monday 22nd January 2024 hold emergency traditional Council meeting in Manhyia Palace over Ashanti regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly Known as ‘Chairman Wontumi’s alleged disparaging statement against the overlord of the Ashanti Kingdom Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The meeting will be Chaired by the President of the Kumasi Traditional Council, Bantamahene Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI in Manhyia Palace.

General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Justin Frimpong Koduah is expected to present Chairman Wontumi before the traditional council for questioning over the allegation following revelations from the Manhyia South Constituency Chairman of the party.

Nana Kwaku Duah, Chief of Kokoso who is Otumfuo’s Obremponhene and Manhyia South NPP Constituency Chairman Ofori Attah Tom-Tom who are chief witness to Chairman Wontumi’s alleged unfortunate statement against Otumfuo during the NPP’s Parliamentary vetting are expected to be present at the all-important Kumasi Traditional Council meeting.

Chairman Wontumi coming to the Palace is in response to traditional summons extended to him by the Traditional Council over the issue even though he earlier denied the allegation made against him by the NPP’s Manhyia South Council of Elders’ member, Nana Kwaku Duah, a former body guard of Former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

Various divisional Chiefs (Nananom Afekuo) who constitute the Kumasi Traditional Council have been invited to be present at the meeting on Monday morning exactly at 10am with two representations each.

It is not clear whether the NPP outspoken regional chairman who will be led by the general secretary of the party will defend his already made stance that he never challenged Otumfuo’s authority claiming had established his Kingdom in the Ashanti region or will take responsibility for his comment and apologize to the Overlord of the Kingdom.
